why expressiveARTS?
As a trauma survivor and therapist, Brianna can attest the the healing power of the arts.

Brianna began her career in mental health as an intern at the Child Abuse Prevention Association. There she learned and witnessed how play therapy was used to tap into unconscious feelings and beliefs. This curiosity grew her interest in alternative methods for exploring trauma in conjunction with therapy. While serving as an individual and family therapist for students 11 - 18 years old, often Brianna used the arts to help teens discuss traumatic experiences as well as build confidence and resilience. Poetry was often used for high risk teens who engaged in self-harm or battled suicidal feelings. In her private practice, art making has helped clients emotionally regulate who had severe mood disorders. As a survivor of sexual assault, She found that movement allows for trauma to be released from the body and provides opportunity to transmute painful emotions.
In the drawing above, a client depicted the feeling of recalling memories after many years of dissociation. Brianna uses this art activity to strengthen the client's cognitive functioning that was disrupted from childhood psychological and emotional abuse.
